About Flourishing Business Mum and Me
I’m so happy to see you here
Flourishing Business Mum is a place to help mums and mums-to-be make money online. Whether you’re just looking for a side-hustle to boost your household income during maternity leave, or your heart is set being a WAHM, I can help you!
I’m Dani – a 30-year-old mama-to-be, blogger and online business owner.
Over the past 4 years I’ve transitioned from starting a blog with no clue about what I was doing to owning multiple online businesses and making a full-time income from home.
I have a background in law and, once-upon-a-time I was a lawyer. I hated the corporate world and it had a huge negative impact on my mental health. The worse my depression and anxiety got, the more I knew that I needed to break free and create a life for myself that made me happy.
So, I took a step away from my legal role, moved to London and started working as an admin assistant at a UK charity. This freed up a lot of my time (no more 16 hour days 🎉) and I started to build my empire.
Things were going well and I was making some income on the side – not a huge amount but some was better than none, right?
But London life was draining.
I felt trapped. We knew that we wanted to start a family and that London definitely was not the place to do that. But we also weren’t in a position to pack up and leave London with no plans on where we would go or what we would do for work/money.
But the universe had a plan for us and an opportunity arose for us to move back to my home town in rural Staffordshire. Mark was able to find a job there and, within 2 months of the opportunity arising, we had moved.
But I didn’t have a job.
I decided that now was the time to try and make this whole run-your-own-business-and-work-from-home-full-time dream a reality.
How Did I Transition to Full-Time?
Making the jump from side-hustle to full-time was HARD.
I’m not the kind of person who is going to sit here and type out the lie that you see oh so often online:
I’m not saying that 6-figure months aren’t possible BUT I would be lying to you if I said that making a full-time income from home was easy. And I’d be lying to you if I said I was making 6-figures because I’m not.
But that’s also not my dream so I’m cool with it
My blog just wasn’t making enough money. And, as I watched my current account balance go down – and then my savings start to disappear – I had to be realistic with myself that my blog just wasn’t going to cut it as a replacement for my full-time job.
I started looking into starting a service-based business. I had experience in everything blogging related, I had experience of being an Administrative and Executive Assistant PLUS I had helped out blogging friends in the past with their day-to-day business tasks.
So becoming a VA was the most obvious option for me.
I set about designing a website, creating my packages and networking in Facebook Groups. I bagged myself a couple of clients which, along with the little bit of income I had from my blog and a couple of side-hustles (transcribing, freelance writing…) I was just about scraping by. The money in my account stopped dropping down. But it wasn’t really going back up either.
I was panicking but I knew that things could only get better. I’d made a start, and that was all that mattered.
🎉👶🤰 And then we found out I was pregnant! 🎉👶🤰
We were over the moon – we’d been trying for a while and were SO HAPPY that it had finally happened for us.
But the pressure was really on. And the panic really hit.
Not only was the need for all of this to work out suddenly more urgent than ever, but I was spending my days throwing up and sleeping rather than growing my business. I actually had to cut down the number of hours I was working for clients and those numbers on my account started going down again.
I spent days on end just crying and feeling like a complete failure. And throwing up of course.
But then I came out of the other side.
The morning sickness subsided and I had a whole new sense of purpose. I had a baby to support. A family to provide for.
You see, the thing is, I already knew what I needed to do. I had the knowledge. I’d just never had the need to put in the work and make it all happen.
I also found a new passion – helping other mamas do this too.
The idea of having to leave my baby that hasn’t even been born yet to go back to a 9-5 job is impossible to think about. So I got rid of my old blog and turned my focus on to Flourishing Business Mum.
I went through a lot of trial and error to get here. I wasted a lot of time and money on things that didn’t work out. But then, when I really put my mind to it, I figured out a system that worked. And I want to share that system with you. I want you to be able to live your dream of making an income online so that you can stay home with your little ones.
I want you to be a Flourishing Business Mum too!
