Tell Us a Little Bit About Your Blog/Biz
See Girl Work is a curation of work and lifestyle content for creative, entrepreneurial-minded women doing it for themselves. We publish content related to freelance living, entrepreneurship, and career strategies. We also feature profiles and interviews with women who are creating their own lifestyles on their own terms.
What Inspired You to Start Your Own Blog/Biz
I originally started See Girl Work as a way to market my small business and meet other entrepreneurial-minded women. Since then we’ve grown into a content hub, resource centre, and a growing community of makers, creators, freelancers and service providers.
Our mission is to close the knowledge between those who have figured it out and those who are striving to create a life that they can live on their own terms.
What Were the First Steps Your Took to Put Your Dreams into Action?
One of my first steps I took in building my creative business was to find my tribe. I knew what I didn’t know and being able to connect with others who were already on their way was incredibly helpful for me.
What is the Biggest Challenge You’ve Faced so Far and How Did You Overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges for me was wanting to do everything. But it was a stage I had to go through in order to figure out what I didn’t like and what I was super passionate about. Over the last six months, I’ve been really focused on honing in on my niche and being super targeted about the brand, what we’re about and how we can provide value to our audience.
What is Your Biggest Achievement to Date?
My biggest professional achievements was being profiled by PayPal in one of their small business spotlights. It led to an opportunity to be featured in two national Canadian newspaper articles.
I am also proud of hosting two networking events last year. I super pumped to be in the midst of planning our next round of programming for 2018.
What is Your Favourite Thing About Running Your Own Blog/Biz?
Leading and being my own driving force.
What Could You/Your Blog Your Business Not Function Without?
Our loyal community of readers, subscribers, followers and listeners.
What Keeps You Motivated and Focused When Things Get Tough?
Ha Ha! Same response as #7. Getting notes, emails and comments from our online community always keeps me going when things get tough, hard, expensive, complex or long.
What One Thing do You Wish You Had Known Before You Started Out?
When I first started out I wish I had known how expensive the first few years would be. It’s not just about starting a free blog online and registering a domain name for $20. Producing interesting content, creating experiences and building an engaged audience takes time, consistency, commitment and money.
What Does the Future Hold for Your Blog/Biz?
My goals for the future include working with more brands to create exciting experiences for our community, doing more video content and collaborating with other creatives. In 2018, we’ll be hosting two networking events and a blogging masterclass workshop.
Finally, Tell us One Random Thing About Yourself!
