Tell Us a Little Bit About Your Blog/Biz

Home and Horizon is for budget-conscious families looking for affordable home-ware and affordable family travel – my two great passions (apart from the kids!)

I love being able to be one of the first to deliver news on travel and interior offers and product launches. I’m thrifty (and creative) by nature, so launching a blog seemed like the next natural step to take.

My blog also covers general lifestyle issues – particularly topics involving teens/tweens, technology (as I’m a big gadget fan!) and “mini rants” as it’s good to get things off my chest!

What Inspired You to Start Your Own Blog/Biz

As a full-time travel journalist, I was getting to hear about some great deals – the latest sales and promotions plus new product and service launches.

I work for a trade magazine and I always thought what a waste that the general public weren’t getting to hear about the great travel deals and launches in one place – hence the idea for Home and Horizon was conceived!

What Were the First Steps Your Took to Put Your Dreams into Action?

I didn’t know the first thing about blogging and the tech/platforms behind it, so I read anything and everything I could find about blogging.

In the early days, I wasn’t aware how important social media was. They say a blog is 20% writing and 80% promotion – and it’s so true!

What is Your Biggest Achievement to Date?

Oooh…I have a few – speaking at Traverse 17, becoming a brand ambassador and every single time a follower tells me how I’ve inspired them or helped them in some way, it makes my week!

What is Your Favourite Thing About Running Your Own Blog/Biz?

Making my own decisions, not being answerable to anyone but myself plus getting the chance to be as creative as I like.

What Could You/Your Blog Your Business Not Function Without?

The ongoing understanding and support from my family. Yes, I switch off from the blog from time to time (and that’s important), but if it were not for their support then I wouldn’t be where I am blog-wise today.

What Keeps You Motivated and Focused When Things Get Tough?

Keeping in mind my end goal, thinking about the future that I can offer my family and living by the motto “Your get what you work for, not what you wish for.”

What One Thing do You Wish You Had Known Before You Started Out?

How much I would love blogging – I would have started years earlier!

What Does the Future Hold for Your Blog/Biz?

One day I’d like to be earning enough money to be able to support my family. I’d love for Home and Horizon to become known as the place for checking out the latest travel and home interior offers and news.

Most of all, I’d love to inspire and help people develop their own blog path – so lots of event speaking roles and being on panels/podcasts would be great!

Finally, Tell us One Random Thing About Yourself!

I find cleaning and clearing therapeutic. Tidy house, tidy mind!
